Miss Adams' dilemma 2:2

After Lettice made it clear that she would not wish Anne welcome as the new lady of The Old Hall, Anne was left with a difficult choice. To live with someone that hates you, to have an enemy in your own close family? This was definately not what Anne wanted for herself. But to cancel the wedding on the weddingday also seemed exaggerated.

But I do love him, Anne said to herself that night. Isn't that the most important thing? And think about all the invited guests!

And the cake and all the food!! No, I must go through with it.

The silence was impervious as Lettice and Anne went to the hairdresser on the day of the wedding.

Neither Lettice nor Anne had anything to say to each other.

- This will not be easy, Anne thought to herself.

- Oh no! I forgot my my wallet in the car! Anne suddenly realized, and ran out to get it.

- Your stepmother is such a sweet person! The apprentice said, Nothing like the evil stepmothers from the fairytales, that's for sure!  You must be very happy to have her in the family.

- I guess... Littice said and shrugged her shoulders.

At the Wedding garden, where the wedding was going to take place, Lettice still thought about what the hairdressing apprentice had said. Actually she is not that bad, she thought. For the most time she is really friendly.

My father could have done worse. What if he got married to some busybody like Miss Harnell or something! That would be a real pain in the you-know-where!
- I'm really happy for you dad, she suddenly said. I really am!

Anne looked really wonderful in her pale violet dress, and the colonel smiled happily when she arrived.

- If anyone has reason for these two not to wed, speak now or forever hold your peace, the minister said
- I do!! Eh...I mean, I object! Anne's voice went as a shock through the congregation. - Or, wait, I just need a minute. Lucius, I need to talk to you! Now!

- Now?! Can't it wait? It's quite embarrassing...
- Unless you want me to cancel the whole thing...
- Okay, okay. Let's go inside.

- Lucius, I do love you. And I know you care about me. But your daughter is very much against this wedding, and I'm not sure if would be right to get married right now.
- She is not against it, she told so herself, just now!

- Are you sure?
- Yes, no doubt about it. Not that it should be necessary, but wait, I will get her and you can hear it from her yourself.

- Well Lettice, tell her, please!
- I don't want my father to marry anyone but you!

- Really??
- Yes, really. And I know we will get along just fine. I'm sorry that I made you worry about... stuff
- I don't know if I should laugh or cry! I think I do both ha-ha! You've made me very happy Lettice, this is such a relief! Now let's get married! Your father and I, I mean!

It was such a beautiful seremony!

Everybody was happy for them

And some more than others!

A lovely couple!

So romantic!

And the party was also a success!

With enjoyable speaches

Great entertainment

Lovely duets

With an element of comedy.

And dancing of course.

It was just a wonderful wedding. Just like in the fairytales. But without the evil stepmother.

- The End -

(But it is NOT the end of course. It is only the beginning of another story.)

Miss Adams' dilemma 1:2

As we have mentioned before, Colonel Protheroe have made some serious courting towards Miss Adams. She turned him down again and again. This only made the colonel even more fierce.

He proposed several times.

And was rejected.

He was not happy about it.

He made a cunning plan.

He lavished her with flowers and beautiful gifts.

And showed her his most romantic side.

Anne was still not convinced.
- I don't know what he wants from me, she explained to Miss Marple, I don't even know how to cook! And his daughter hates me.

- I've tried to treat her like she was my daughter, but she just hisses like a cat.

- Oh dear, Miss Marple replied, I can understand that this must be very difficult for you. Lettice has some sore memories of her mother you see, I remember that sad story very well. I fear she is not very comfortable with you taking her mothers place, but maybe you can become her friend instead?

In the beginning young Miss Lettice was not very accomodating.

But the driving lessons was too tempting for the young lady.

Gradually the relationship became better, and it seemed like Anne had won Lettice's trust.

Finally the colonel managed to put the ring on Anne's finger!

A happy ending!! Or maybe not...

At breakfast the day before the wedding, Lettice gave Anne a clear message:
- I think this marriage is a terrible idea, I don't like you, and I never will. I really don't understand why my father want you in this house, and I have told him what I think of it. Not that anybody seems to care about what I say anyway, but now you know where I stand.

I have to think about this, Anne said to herself. I will take Allegra for a long ride and try to clear my thoughts. I really don't want to get married under these conditions. But there is not much time to think, the wedding is tomorrow! Should I cancel it? I really don't know what to do!

To be continued... (Part two here)

Stealing scones?

After keeping her under surveillance for several days, Mr Lombard confronted Mrs Spenlow yesterday about the missing scones at the Tea Room.

"I know you put them under your skirt and pretend that nothing has happened", Mr Lombard argued, when Mrs Spenlow insisted she would never do such a thing.

Even Mr Spenlow believe his wife has a problem, and has asked Mrs Bantry to ask Miss Marple to look into the matter. As soon as we have clarified the facts, Mr Spenlow says, necessary measures will be initiated.

Mr Giles is not a fungus

Mr Giles is not a fungus, but the treatment he initiated for his garden have probably made him very ill, with dizziness and breathing problems.

He is not able to work normally and spends most of his time these days at the front porch. According to Dr Haydock the cause of the illness is most likely the chemicals, but it might also be the fungus itself attacking Mr. Giles' lungs.

A third theory is that the useless umbrella Mr Giles have, haven't protected him from the heavy rain we've had lately. Constantly being wet might have given Mr. Giles a form of pneumonia.

Announcement of Engagement

The above mentioned Mr Giles is happy to announce that his son Bernard is engaged to be married to Miss Anthea Perkins from Newton Abbot. The young couple met at the Cheese and Onion Fayre last year, and are planning to settle at the Giles farm after the wedding.

Settling in

Mrs Bantry is settling in at the gatehouse at Gossington Hall and is very happy with the arrangement. "The downsizing has made my life so much easier", she says, "in addition to having solved a number of problems in the family".

Buster, Mrs Gregg's dog, seems to enjoy his new playground, and is getting new friends. Well, maybe not friends, but at least someone (or something) to play with.

Mrs Gregg herself is also pleased with her new living quarters, but she is almost probably definitely sure that she maybe saw a ghost the other day. "It was terrible Jason! He was limping around in the library, with only one eye and hiding half of his face like this!! Can you believe it?!?" "No, I can't", Mr Rudd replied.

Teen in trouble

Frank Baker started a furious argument with Miss Keene at the Tennis Club a couple of weeks ago, after overhearing her telling the tennis coach about some pranks he had done in the past.

"You and your stupid friends at the hotel", the young punk sputtered, "you think you are so special, but you just wait, I will FIX you!!"

Miss Keene was quite upset after the incident, and approached Mrs Baker about her son's threats.

At a small get together at Mr Redding's last week Mrs Baker told her friend Miss Marple about it, and asked her to keep an eye on young Frank. "I can't believe that my son would actually do something like that, but there have been some unresting episodes lately. I don't know what is wrong with that boy!"
As always, Miss Marple has promised to assist, and will help the family to get the lad on better thoughts.
