Miss Adams' dilemma 1:2

As we have mentioned before, Colonel Protheroe have made some serious courting towards Miss Adams. She turned him down again and again. This only made the colonel even more fierce.

He proposed several times.

And was rejected.

He was not happy about it.

He made a cunning plan.

He lavished her with flowers and beautiful gifts.

And showed her his most romantic side.

Anne was still not convinced.
- I don't know what he wants from me, she explained to Miss Marple, I don't even know how to cook! And his daughter hates me.

- I've tried to treat her like she was my daughter, but she just hisses like a cat.

- Oh dear, Miss Marple replied, I can understand that this must be very difficult for you. Lettice has some sore memories of her mother you see, I remember that sad story very well. I fear she is not very comfortable with you taking her mothers place, but maybe you can become her friend instead?

In the beginning young Miss Lettice was not very accomodating.

But the driving lessons was too tempting for the young lady.

Gradually the relationship became better, and it seemed like Anne had won Lettice's trust.

Finally the colonel managed to put the ring on Anne's finger!

A happy ending!! Or maybe not...

At breakfast the day before the wedding, Lettice gave Anne a clear message:
- I think this marriage is a terrible idea, I don't like you, and I never will. I really don't understand why my father want you in this house, and I have told him what I think of it. Not that anybody seems to care about what I say anyway, but now you know where I stand.

I have to think about this, Anne said to herself. I will take Allegra for a long ride and try to clear my thoughts. I really don't want to get married under these conditions. But there is not much time to think, the wedding is tomorrow! Should I cancel it? I really don't know what to do!

To be continued... (Part two here)

The characters and buildings from this story are from the AnnoSims Group project St. Mary Mead, loosly based on the novels of Agatha Christie. ( Anno Sims is now closed, but you can find my own creations for the project here at KSW.)
