Finding friends
The first thing Fiona did next morning was to call the hairdresser.
- What? Nothing available until next week?? Are you sure? Bummer. Well next Thursday it is then. Thank you!
Never mind, Fiona thought to herself. I'm still going to have fun, with or without the headscarf. So she went swimming.
She went for karaoke. (To be honest, that was not a success)
Playing pool proved to be a great way meeting people and potential friends. Especially potential boyfriends.
Marko was a really handsome guy, and a lot of fun. He and Fiona went out a couple of times, for pool ...
... and dancing. He was perfect!
Until he showed his true face. Crazy jealousy, for no reason! Definitely not Mr. Perfect!
Fiona realized that meeting guys were not a problem. Meeting a good, normal and decent guy on the other hand, was easier said than done. Some were only talking about themselves.
Some were not interested in talking at all.
- It's hopeless! Fiona complained to her colleague Anna. - I seem to end up with idiots every time!
- Why don't you try net-dating? Anna suggested.
That's a good idea actually. There will still be idiots, but at least I can turn down the worst cases in the safety of my own home.
However, the "safety at home" part wasn't that reassuring. It turned out that Maggie's Guest House was in a quite dodgy part of town. At times strangers had been found in the shared living room. Not a very pleasant thing....
But the worst of all happend on Wednesday night. A burglar broke into Fionas room.
Fiona caught him red handed. He escaped with a painting and a few other things, but that was not the worst that could have happened. It gave her a real shock.
Fiona was still upset when she went to the hairdresser. And she was even more upset after her visit. She was not at all pleased with the result.
When she came home she found out that someone - maybe the burglar from last night - also had been steeling from the mailbox. - It is a common problem in this area, the police officer explained.
- Stavroulla? I'm having the most awful day! Do you want to go for a coffee or something? I really need to chill with friendly folks...
- Oh you cut your hair! It's really... special. I love it! Stavroulla said enthusiastically
- Do you really? I don't. But I love yours!
- Ha-ha! This is just a wig I use sometimes. Everybody can have a bad hairday you know! Anyway, tell me what happened. You seemed so upset on the phone, and I'm guessing it's not about your hair?
Fiona admitted that the hair was the least of her problems and she told Stavroulla everything about the break-in and the other problems at Maggie's.
- I really wish I could move, Fiona admitted, but I can't afford it at the moment.
- That's terrible! Of course you can't stay in that place! I can't offer you a room or anything, but we can fix a mattress on the floor or something. And at least it is safe!
- Stavroulla darling, you just made my day! What a relief! Thank you for being such a great friend!
- Fiona sweety, don't worry. Everything will be okay, you'll see! Even your hair will grow again, you know!
