Miss Fiona Grey - Chapter 1

Prologue

I don't know much about Fiona Grey's background. She never talks about it. I don't know why. Usually, when someone refuses to talk about something it is because it is too painful for them. I guess this is the case with Fiona Grey as well. But I don't know for sure. She never talks about her past. Not her parents or childhood years. She never mentions siblings or boyfriends, or girlfriends for that matter. I don't know why. But her not talking about it, says a lot. The only thing she's ever said that is somewhat related to her past, is that she sometimes talk to her aunt Angela. But is she really? I mean, is there a real person in the other end? I'm not really sure about that. This is what I DO know about Fiona Grey:

The arrival

Fiona in taxi
Fiona Grey arrived at Hidden Springs very early in the morning on what was going to be one of the hottest days in July that year.

Fiona in Hidden Springs
It was a bit overwhelming. New town, new people, new job, new life. And new possibilities. - Well here is the Les Freres Jacques where I'm going to work, Fiona said to herself. It wasn't the best job in the world. Wages were low, work was hard and the boss not very friendly. But everybody has to start somewhere. .

Fiona in Hidden Springs
Next step is to find a place to stay. It must be cheap. I spent most my money on this computer and the ticket here, so... Well here is something!

Fiona in Hidden Springs
"Maggies Guest House" It doesn't look too bad! It will do for now. It seems okay, and it is REALLY cheap!

Fiona in Hidden Springs
I will need some essential things. A cup, a plate, towel, shower gel, shampoo... Well not shampoo, but the other stuff. I'm heading out to the consignment store.

Fiona in Hidden Springs
At the consignment store Fiona met Stavroulla.
- Stavroulla? That's a very special name?
- Yes I know, my grandparents are Greek you see. It's a common name in Greece actually.
It was easy to talk with Stavroulla. She is working as a medical secretary and training to become a general physician. She has lived in Hidden Springs for two years now. She is single. She is smart. Ambitious. And very friendly.

Fiona in Hidden Springs
- Do you mind if I ask you a very personal question?
- No of course not, go ahead!
- Why are you waring that headscarf? Are you a cancer patient by any chance?

Fiona in Hidden Springs
- Cancer patient?? No, not at all! I just ... Eh, well this is very silly! I had a chewing gum accident actually. I was sleeping and, well you know. Shit happens. I just had to cut it all off. And I didn't have the chance to go to the hairdresser, because I was traveling here.
- Chewing gum!!?! No kidding? That's terrible!

Fiona in Hidden Springs
- I used to have really nice hair actually! Just have a look!

Fiona in Hidden Springs
- Wow, that's really beautiful! You are so pretty! And what a lovely hair color! The headscarf doesn't do much for you to be honest...

Fiona in Hidden Springs
- I know!! But what can I do?
- I will recommend a hairdresser to you, Just go to 'www.fabhairathiddensprings.com', they have this neat program that you use your web camera to try on different hairstyles
- Yess!! That is just what I need. Thank you!

Fiona in Hidden Springs
Buy the time Fiona was finished at the consignment store, the super marked and everything in Hidden Springs had closed. - I will just have to steel something from the garden, because otherwise I will starve to death.

Fiona in Hidden Springs
A nice little salad! Perfect! I think I have a talent for this!

Fiona in Hidden Springs
The next morning Fiona got up early, and started her first day at work.

Fiona in Hidden Springs
Washing dishes.

Fiona in Hidden Springs
A lot of dishes...

Fiona in Hidden Springs
- I will have to do something, because probably I wont keep up very long in this job.

Fiona in Hidden Springs
First thing first. Let's see what I can do to my hair!

Fiona in Hidden Springs
Well there is hope! But which one to choose? I will have to think about it, but anything is better than the headscarf. Even if it is not to compare with aunt Angela's fantastic braids.
